Ish was created by Dana Parkhill, herself representative of the band's startling eclecticism. A classical flautist who has belly-danced her way through Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco, Ish is the band she has dreamed of for years. The line-up comprises fearless fiddle player Louise Ward, the multitalented Phill Jones of Tukituki Instruments, bass-playing wunderkind Chris Beernink, Dana's husband Johnny Goodhind with his guitar, bouzouki, mandolin and saxophone, percussionist extraordinaire Joe Dobson, and Parkhill on flute. Slam is back! This is big and loud poetry at its very best. Come stomp, holler, and cheer for your favourite as Hawke's Bay's top spoken word artists perform for your votes. Ten local poets will compete for random audience votes and by the end of the night we will have crowned a brand new Hawke's Bay Poetry Slam Champion for 2023!
This is our sixth year bringing the slam to Hawke's Bay, and we're delighted to be co-producing with the thriving Hastings poetry community Common Poets' Society.
